Digital Learning Event Activities

 

IQES PTA as a National PTA grant recipient for the “Take Your Family To School Week” (TYFTSW), will host a Digital Learning event, on Feb 17th 2018.

Utilizing the digital tools (namely Google Chromebooks) our children use at the school on a daily basis, families will get the chance to explore learning opportunities in the digital world.

Below are some of the activities featured during our Digital Learning Event as well as other engaging activities that we were unable to present due to the limited timeframe of the event.

All of these tools are available at no cost and are a fun way to engage families in digital learning activities and help children get a feel of computer programing skills as well as internet safety fundamentals through gaming.

 

1.      Coding with Scratch (All ages) – Access Scratch

Scratch is a programming language and online community for coders created and
supported by MIT. This activity walks each participant through a project where they will use coding to animate their name.

2.      Gravity in Space (All Ages) Access Gravity in Space

The Smithsonian museums offer tons of online opportunities for students to explore history, science, and culture. This activity asks students to experiment with velocity and angles to see the effects gravity has on an object.

3.      Visualize Music (All ages) Access Visualize Music

Chrome Music Lab was created in collaboration with musicians and coders to provide a collection of experiments that allow everyone to explore how music works. This activity guides participants through four experiments that explore sound in a visual way.

4.         Quick, Draw! (All Ages) Access Quick Draw

Quick, Draw! is a drawing charades game. In this activity, participants their artistic skills to see if the computer can guess what they are creating.

5.      Computational Thinking (All Ages) Access Computational Thinking

This coding game teaches children coding concepts while they discover how to move an adventurous little robot named Bit towards the finish line.

6.      Math is Everywhere (K-3) Access Math is Everywhere
Peg and Cat are characters from PBS Kids, who have never met a math problem that is too big to solve. In this activity, children will use math problem-solving skills to help Peg and Cat purchase items on a shopping adventure.

7.      Be Internet Awesome (All Ages) Access Be Internet Awesome

This online adventure puts digital safety into practice, allowing children to explore the “Kind Kingdom” to learn the skills they need to be kind online.

8.    School MAX (Parents)  (School MAX Registration Video Tutorial) (Using School MAX Video)

SchoolMAX is an online student information system, utilized by PGCPS to help keep track of nearly all student-related data, such as contact information, attendance, grades etc. The Family Portal is a feature of SchoolMAX that allows designated family members to view this information for their children and keep an eye on their progress.

9. MySchoolBucks.com (MySchoolBucks Video Tutorials)

MySchoolBucks gives parents the convenience and flexibility of one account to securely pay for all of their student meals and more with a credit card, debit card, or electronic check.
